My kids' new names - How many moms do this?

My kids names are Michael, Logan and Damien (yes my website is named after them) You know how when your kids are fighting and your busy/tired/frustrated and you just shout out whatever name comes to mind first, whether its really the kid you are talking to or not? You go down the list of names until you finally get the right kid.

Well I have taken that to a new level. I have combined my children's names. Since Damien is only a baby, I haven't had to say his name in frustration yet. But with my oldest two, its MiLogan or LoMichael. Yep. I started to say one kid's name and realized I needed the other one instead so I changed course in the middle. So come on, tell me I am not the only one who does this?

  1. No only are you not the only one who does this. It's become a generation thing with us.

My aunt used to mix up my sisters name including me.

There are two L's and a C and a K (okay, not sure what my mother was thinking she could have started my name with a K since I was the youngest).

So it's (from the oldest to the youngest), Lesli, Lynda, Karyn and Carla.

    You figure it out! LOL

Now my oldest sister Lesli gets her two children's names mixed up Ryan and Taylor and she messes my name up with her daughter and my daughter Alexis.

It's horrible what frustration can make you do!

    Good Post Cheryl.

  2. My sister and I named all of our kids with K or C names just so we could confuse our mom more. We have Casey, Karilyn, Kristen, Kay and Cora and then I went crazy and named the only boy Jake. We think it's hilarious to hear my mom try to talk to any of the girls.

  3. LOL, that is too funny!
I haven't done it yet (but my kids are a boy and girl so I don't know if that makes a difference) but my mom did it for YEARS! Even when she was old and living with us and I was one of the only daughters out of 5 she saw, she would still go through the list of girls names before I had to remind her... "I'm SUSAN". lol ;-)

  4. Cheryl,
I thought I was the only one who did this. I remember my mom going down the list of all 5 kids, 3 dogs and 3 birds before she got to the correct name.
I did this for awhile until I put the girls names together and even shorten them! My girls names are Meghan and Mandy so I can them MegMan when they get in trouble.
    Love your post!

  6. Well Cheryl... you see I am an only child, but now a mother of 3. Growing up I had never heard of this "that's not my name" calling bit until I became a mother of more than one child.
So as I sit here chuckling to myself (everyone is out and about tonight) I vision the many times I ran down the list of family names... Jason, Jake, Emma.. I mean Hailey... um.. Reece (that's the dog)...
So when they look at me with the look of "that's not my name" I just give them the look of "you know who I mean"!
    hehehe... great blog...

  7. I have a confession to make, I do this with my daughter and husband! They are exactly alike and love to drive me insane. They get a kick out of it!

  8. I do this too. I remember my grandmother doing it with us grandkids and we used to think it was so funny. Now I am doing it and my kids' names don't sound the same and I have a boy and a girl. Go figure!
