No doubt, she is the princess in your life, so why not celebrate her birthday in a royal manner? Plan the perfect princess birthday party that would let her live the life of a princess for one day. Although you may think otherwise, it is extremely easy to organize a princess party, all you need is some inspiration and a little bit of effort.

Below are some tips that can help you set up the perfect princess birthday party for your daughter and her friends;

o INVITATIONS: Make use of a calligraphy font to print your party invitations. Roll up the parchment and tie it with a satin ribbon to give it a royal feel. For the extra effect, you can have the invitations delivered by a messenger wearing a medieval costume.

o DECORATIONS: Purple, pink and gold are great colors that can be used to decorate the location of the party. Tie ribbons to the chairs and put up strings of balloons. You can use dolls as centerpieces. Also, attach colorful paper streamers to light fixtures to add a festive touch.

o ACTIVITIES: Set up different activities so that everybody can get together and have fun. Place beads in bowls so that the girls can create their own colorful necklaces. Give tiaras and ask the kids to decorate their tiaras with glitter and sparkles.

Fingerpainting fun with Lotion!

This time of year my kid's skin gets really dry, so we put lotion on them often. My toddler loves to have lotion rubbed on his skin. He will bring me the bottle of lotion and sit down on the floor next to me. :) Now I put just a little lotion on his legs and arms and he loves to finger paint with it! Great activity for toddlers and it helps their skin too. We work on teaching my son his body parts when we do this activity. Just be mindful if you use lotions that smell like fruit and flowers, little ones might try to eat it like my son tried to!

Working at home with children

Working from home with children, has its challenges. Its why I am writing this blog post at 1 AM. I always have a "helper" of sorts. We are starting our new line of personalized birthday tees and I am working on taking some pictures of my creations. When my son decides that my shirts need a little dressing up.

Mater perhaps? Of course every shirt needs a mater! No wait, it needs something else - a convertible. Oh and my kid's hand. Yep these shirts will just fly off my shelves now!

Explanation of a Top 100 Site

Confused about top 100 sites? Not sure what they really mean or what is the purpose of them? Keep reading – I’ll give you a “newbie” explanation of them.
What is a top-site?

Top sites are a collection of related sites that are grouped together within a script that allows a person to vote for that site. Voting for a site by clicking a banner within a top-site allows the site to rank higher within the top site. The more votes a banner gets within the top site the higher your banner will be shown. The higher your banner is shown on the page will equal more visits to your site. Most top sites count incoming links as well as outgoing links to their top site group to determine where you are ranked within the top site. Incoming links are gathered by you placing the top sites banner code on your site and visitors from your site clicking to visit the top site. Outgoing links are visitors who clicked on your site while they were browsing the top site.

Top sites are usually free to join. By joining you are agreeing to exchange your banner link with the top site’s banner. Top sites usually generate a lot of traffic, so if you are a new site, joining a few good top sites are important to help build up your creditability with the search engines. The more sites that search engines find your link on, the better. After browsing around a few top sites, you might notice that some have a bunch of dazzling banners at the very top of the site. Those are usually paid sponsors. Those websites paid the top site owner for an ad space at the top of the top site. There are many advantages of this. I’ll go over the top two most important ones.

First by purchasing an ad, you are purchasing your guaranteed spot at the top. No matter how many pages long the list grows – your site will always be in that same top spot on each page. You don’t have to do any daily clicking and voting to keep your site at the top. You paid for it to be there, so it will for the duration of your purchased plan. Some top sites offer forever or lifetime ads, which are exactly as they imply. Your banner ad remains there forever. Others top sites do monthly sponsored ads. You pay for a spot at the top in monthly blocks of time. Some top sites have a combination of both.
The second reason to purchase an ad on a top site is for one way linking or back links. By purchasing an ad, you do not have to exchange links with the top site. You are paying to not reciprocate. This is excellent for one way links. The more one way links that major search engines find your link on, the more credible they’ll rank your site. If they see a lot of sites linking to your site via a one way link, the better your chances of getting hits to your site become when someone is searching for a product or service that you provide on your site.

Think of top sites as a huge online shopping mall. All the banners are like dozens of storefronts within a mall and you are standing at the entrance of a huge mall. The window displays are what draw you into the store. On top sites the more eye catching your banner is – the more likely people will click on it. And as anyone in marketing will tell you: location, location, location is very important. The higher on the top site you are, the better chances you’ll get to more traffic. Just like stores within a shopping mall rent from the mall owners, the more rent you pay – the better your storefront’s location. The same idea applies to top sites.

Top sites usually have banner size requirements. Most banners are square shaped 125 x 125 or rectangle shaped at 468 x 60. You would have these uploaded on your site in your image directory if you have a website. Or you can host your banner to a free image sharing account. You can do a search on search engines for free photo sharing accounts. If you do not have a banner and would like one created, you can find many graphic designers online that will offer to create one for you that will fit your needs.

Once you have your banner, you are ready to sign up with a top site. You’ll create a user name, a password, a short description about your site and upload the url to your banner. Some top sites will approve your membership right away and others require approval first. Once you have received the top sites approval you’ll log in and look for top sites banners. You’ll place a specialty coded banner on your website which will count your incoming and outgoing links within the top site. It’s important that you do not change anything within the coding you received or your site votes may not register correctly. For best results you should place the top sites banner in a highly visible location on your site, like your homepage. Or in your links section. The more highly visible the banner is, the more likely your visitors on your site will vote for your site! If you are not sure where to place the top site code on your link, its best to contact your hosting account owner or your template graphic designer for help.

Don’t just join any and every top site you come across. Check to make sure the top site is well maintained and not abandoned. An easy way to do this is to take a look at the ads. Do you see lots of red x’s or spaces where banners should be? If so, that’s an indication that the top site has been abandoned or not maintained on a regular basis. The red x’s mean that either the sites that they lead to are no longer in business or that they have moved their image urls and haven’t updated their new links. Other reasons to avoid certain top sites if there are little or no paid ads at the top of the site in the sponsored section. Feel free to contact the top site owner for statistics of their site. If they do not provide you with a way to contact them, that is another reason to avoid them. Feel free to contact the other members in the paid sponsor section for references. Also look at the votes for the members; do they have a lot of hits in and out? Chances are if there are not many that’s because the top site is not generating much traffic.

Signs of good top sites are:
Lots of paid sponsors and non-paid members. The more members on a top site - the better. Top site has very few or no dead links or red x’s. Reasonable ad prices to purchase, if the top site’s ad prices are extremely high or very low - that might be a red flag. The paid ad businesses are relevant to your business. If you sell baby items you want to join sites that sell like minded items. Look at the members votes – do they have a lot of hits coming in and out of their site? Lastly, word of mouth and good recommendations from other website owners about the top site you are considering. If you see other sites that you know are good, quality sites and they are a member of the top site you are considering – it’s probably a good bet you should join too.

My Office made of Legos

My son was so proud of himself for building my "dream office" out of his Legos, I thought I'd share the pictures here for Wordless Wednesday.

My office is on the top, with enough room for my sewing machine and embroidery machines, desk and all my office stuff. :)

My "office" is where the blue door is. The rest of the Legos are our "dream house". See the stairs leading up to my son's room :). Notice he even made a garden to the right and the red lonely Lego by itself in the font yard is our picnic table!

Yes you can eat in the living room

We have a strict rule in our house. No eating in the living room. Well I try to enforce that strict rule, but somehow I always manage to find evidence of disobedience of this rule, with an apple core shoved behind the tv or a stray cereal piece in between the cushions.

Well tonight I had to break that rule. I allowed my 2 oldest to eat in the living room. Why? Well because I was in the kitchen washing dishes and my youngest was in there as well. My oldest was trying to snack on a ice cream cone and my middle child was eating a piece of cheese. My youngest was going crazy because his brothers were eating those things and he wasn't. We couldn't give those things to him, since they are milk based products and he had the stomach flu. So finally to end the drama, I shooed the older kids to the living room while distracting the youngest.

My husband asked, "why didn't you just leave the kitchen and take the little one with you?" Well I don't know why - maybe a day of cleaning up puke, fried my brain and I didn't think of that!

The Stomach Flu Fairy Strikes Again!

Hello Ms Stomach Flu Fairy. I am not pleased with you. I am sure you get a lot of angry letters from parents! I am not one to complain, but I feel this is a valid complaint. You visited our house just one short month ago in December and cursed us with your horrid stomach flu bug. Remember? It was just days before my Birthday and 2 weeks prior to Christmas. I remember it well, as my kids were sick for a day and then I was fooled into thinking they were feeling better. So I fed them. All that next day they were fine. Or so I thought. Guess what sound and smell I woke up to that night? Yes, it struck again a day later and the same children I might add.

As a parent of 3 children, I am resigned to the fact that you'll visit our household at least once each year. However I must remind you after this mornings episode with my 19 month old getting sick 5 times on my carpet. You have exceeded your allowed quota of one visit per flu season. Please go find someone your own size to pick on and leave my kids alone!

Bunk beds - what was I thinking?!?!

I was super excited when I finally found what looked like a decent bunk bed for less then $180.00 online - shipping included! It rolled up at 6 PM and it was pitch black out when the freight truck delivered the set. My 4 year old was especially excited - he thought it was "Lighting McQueen" being delivered to our garage. He was thinking the freight truck was "Mack" and Lighting McQueen was inside, since it was dark out - all he could see was it was a large truck and it had lights. :)

So we get it assembled today and the boys are super excited about their new beds! We are stoked too, cause thanks to the bunk bed, the kids will finally have some room to play in their room and all the toys can go in there too! Yeah no more toys in the living room right?

I was feeling pretty smug about it all, until it came time to put on the sheets. Why didn't someone tell me its a pain the rump to change sheets on a bunk bed? Here I am teetering on the ladder trying to stretch far enough across the top bunk to get the mattress cover and sheet on the bed all in one swoop. After like 10 minutes I finally get the top bunk done. So I'm thinking the bottom one will be a piece of cake. Umm no. Why you non bunk bed owners ask? Well because now I must reach way back in the deep corners of the bed without hitting my head on the top bunk. So putting sheets on these bunks took me like 20 minutes. A task that only took me 2 minutes before when they had single beds. Please tell me I'll get faster and better at this? Until then I am going to dread changing the sheets! Please boys - don't pee your beds ever again?

Twas the night before school started again

Here is a little humor for those of you who have school aged children and maybe they are driving you a little batty! Its been great to spend the last 384 hours (who's counting?) with them. We made cookies for santa, decorated the house for Christmas. Spent time with family and friends and had a great Christmas day. The kids played happily with their new toys and we celebrated New News eve. Then the new year day hits. Kids are bored. Kids are fighting with each other, tired of their toys and its too cold outside to play. In other words they are BORED! They need to go back to school and have routine and structure and learn. So as the kids were driving me nuts, I thought of the Twas a night before Christmas poem and I edited it and rewrote it to have a little humor. Cause any mom with school aged children, knows that you have to have a little humor to keep you from going crazy. Enjoy!

Twas the night before school started after a long Christmas vacation, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The childrens clothing was hung with care,
In hopes that the bright yellow school bus would soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While mommy laid awake with visions of them boarding the school bus danced in her head.
Mommy in her ‘snuggie' and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But the school bus driving away!

With a little old bus driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be my alarm didn't go off.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
I whistled, and shouted, and called my children by name!

"Now Michael! now Logan! Get up and go!
We missed the school bus and must hurry! To school we must go!
"Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all, so mommy can get some work done today!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the school the coursers they flew,
With their backpacks full of papers, homework and lunchboxes too.

And suddenly all too soon, in, I heard on the front lawn
The prancing and pawing of each little foot.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
In the front door My children came with a bound.

They were full of energy from their first day,
And their coats, boots, hats and mittens were all dropped and left on my front doorstep in disarray.
A bundle of papers and empty lunchboxes were flung on their backs,
And they looked like a peddler, just opening their backpacks.

My children's eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
Their cheeks were like roses, their little noses looked just like a cherry!
Their droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the milk dribble on their chin was as white as the snow.

The wad of gum held tight in their teeth,
And the bubble gum encircled his head like a wreath.
They had a round little face and a little flat belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

My children were chubby and plump, from all that Christmas candy they were jolly little self,
And I laughed when I saw them, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had plenty to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And emptied all my cupboards of food, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up from the table he rose!

He sprang from their seat, to his brother he gave a whistle,
And away they all flew down the hall, like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Mom we are home, and to all a good-night!"

Here are 5 ideas of how you can encourage your child's imagination with role play and dressing up.

Pretend to be a Mailman: What is more exciting to kids then getting mail? Take a couple of cardboard boxes or baskets and turn them into mailboxes. Give your child some junk mail or old papers and let them draw pictures and "mail" them to you.

School Time Small children love to play school - set up "desks" which can be as simple as your living room coffee tables, card tables etc. Provide your child with an old backpack that is filled with crayons, paper, books and other school supplies and letting your child "teach" you.

Grocery Store
Simply take a few cans out of your cupboard and arrange them around on your kitchen table or a bookshelf. Provide your child with a calculator and a toy shopping cart or a basket if you don't have a cart and let them "shop".

Playing Doctor or Nurse
Perhaps your child is a bit apprehensive about an upcoming doctors visit or surgery. Help them work through their fears by role playing doctor/nurse and patient with them. Pop in your family's favorite video - turn off the lights and give your child a flashlight to "check" your tickets before entering the theater.

Conversations with an automated phone greeting

Whew October was a busy month! We were so busy shipping out orders - we haven't had a chance to blog. Thank you all of our customers for making Halloween 09 season so succesful!

I had to call our health insurance company today. It has one of those automated and interactive greeting service. Gone are the days where you press 1 for yes and 2 for no. Instead the greeter "listens" to your voice commands. I found out the hard way that any background noise confuses the greeter. As usual I was multi-tasking and trying to make myself and my toddler lunch. I was frying perogies at the stove. Apparenty the greeter didn't like the frying sound. It kept telling me "I'm sorry I did not understand you". Um, I wasn't talking. So I moved away from the stove. I impatiently wait as the greeter goes through the list of my choices. Say one for blah, blah, say TWO for blah, blah, blah. None of these choices were why I was caling. Then my toddler chimes in his 2 cents from the background and the greeter goes crazy. "I'm sorry I can't understand you." And it kept repeating that over and over - sometimes interupting itself to start over when my toddler launched his new string of sounds.

The advantage? Finally the greeter gave up and said 6 little magic words "I'm transferring you to an agent." FINALLY - I can talk to a REAL person! LOL

Lesson learned? Next time I am in the situation of being forced to talk to an automated greeter, I will either A) put my toddler on the phone - he gets results. Or B) I will just jabber like my toddler until I get desired results!

I think I have Crafters ADD

Hello, my name is Cheryl and I am a craft addict. I think I have Crafter's ADD. I have so many projects that I have started, because I just had to see what the final results would be. But before I could get that project finished - Inspiration struck. And so I started another project.

To my defense, I get interrupted A LOT. Its part of being a mom. I'll just settle down to crochet some longies for my son and someone spilled milk on the floor while they were trying to be "independent". Or I'll be supervising my 4 year old during his bath and a great idea will pop in my head. I'll get started on it that night after everyone is in bed. I get it half finished and I'm about to crawl into bed exhausted and my 15 month old wakes up screaming in the night. While I am rocking him back to sleep - I think of yet another great idea.

And so it goes. I'm not lucky enough to have my own craft room, where I could shut the door and keep my craft projects from curious, "helpful" hands. Some day I will strike it rich and when I do, I'm having a craft room that will be mine, all mine! Ha, ha ha. One that you need a secret access code to enter and maybe it will have to read your thumbprint to make sure you are not a imposer. Hmmm, maybe I have been hanging around my 9 year old too much? LOL.

My Son's Surgery

My 4 year old was born with congenital glaucoma. Congenital means it was present at birth. Glaucoma is eye fluid buildup in the eyes. Everyone’s eyes produce fluid. Glaucoma is when the fluid cannot drain properly. And like a balloon that is filled past its capacity, my son’s eye stretched, which in turn stretches the retina in the back of the eye, eventually the strain was too great and the retina collapsed. The retina is the wall in the back of the eye that light bounces off and allows you to see. Without the retina, you are blind. Its like shutting off a light in a dark room. You cannot see anything.
For the last 4 years his vision and glaucoma have been great. Then out of nowhere, boom the other shoe dropped. I noticed my son wasn’t acting himself and his right eye didn’t look quite right. Ihad this nagging feeling something wasn’t right. I took my son to the eye doctor 3 times, The doctors had a hard time getting a good examination of my son, because he just wasn’t being cooperative during the in office exam. Later we knew why, his eye probably hurt and he didn’t want them to touch it. Finally after 3 unsuccessful attempts to get a good eye exam, we decided to do an exam under anesthesia.
My son has a retinal detachment. Currently he cannot see out of his Right eye. He is scheduled to have surgery to try and repair the damaged retina on September 16th. If you pray, please keep my son Logan in your prayers that they surgery is a success and that he will regain his vision in his right eye again.

Silence and a human pincushion

Ah, as much I as I hated getting up at 6 AM this morning to get the kiddos off to school. Once they were on the bus and my 1 year old down for a nap - silence in my house during the daytime for the first time in the last 3 months! Silence didn't last long though, since its only a half day. But tomorrow I'm ready to get a ton of work done on my Milo's Creations website!

Now for the pincushion part. I go to the doctor today for my well child err I mean woman's physical. Sorry thought I was talking about one of my kids for a moment there. I have been bad. I haven't had a physical since 2007 and I think I was punished because of it. I was expecting one needle stick because I need to get a TB test for my part time job. They had the flu shots ready, so figured I might as well get one of those. Then I was asked when I had my last tetanus shot. Um, I dunno. So I get one of those too. And heck while we’re at it, since I didn't get a chance to eat breakfast this morning due to the chaos of getting everyone out the door on their first day - I get my cholesterol checked. Another needle stick. So I'm sporting 4 new puncture wounds. Starting to feel like my babies do when they get their vaccinations.

This year instead of going on vacation, we decided to do our own "staycation" and stay home during my husband's vacation time. We had a list a mile long of things that need to be accomplished around the house. One of those things, was putting up a new mailbox. Our old mailbox was really beat up. So I sent my husband to the store to purchase a new mailbox. As usual anything that guys do, it has to be big right? So my husband comes home with what I think might be world's largest mailbox. Don't believe me?

My Crazy Day - Monsters vs. Aliens movie

So we decide after the kids swimming lessons we'll take our kiddos to the movie theatre. The local theatre is a historical building that is close to 100 years old. Today they were doing 1.00 movies day. Today's feature? Monsters vs Aliens.

Our first stop was swimming lessons. We were running late and I was trying to grab all the "stuff" that we would need for swimming and a change of clothes afterwards. I stuffed all our clothes in our niffy Blue Animals Zoo Wetbag and we were off. Got to swimming, peeled the boys shirts off and ushered them in the pool. I decide today I'd let my 1 year old (who's not walking yet) splash around in the wading pool. Boy oh boy did he splash. Got me soaked.

Kids get done swimming, I propel them to the locker rooms to get changed into street clothes. I frantically stuff their wet clothes in our wetbag, rush out to the car, load everyone up with about 20 minutes to spare.

I discover my 4 year old neglected to bring along his shoes. This kid goes barefoot most of the summer, so I am not surprised. Mental note to self to verify he is wearing his shoes from now on when leaving the house. Simply telling him to get his shoes on the way out the door apparently isn't good enough. Now what I think. Going home and getting them is out of the question. After a quick mommy assessment, I decide to run to the local CVS and buy a cheap pair. I find a size too small spiderman flip flops. I stuff them on his feet and we are off to the movies!

We pull up to the movie theatre at 1:25 and there is a line about a block long out front of the theatre. I'm muttering to myself there can't be a line to get into this movie can there? Its not a new release and anytime we go to this old theatre we and about 15 other people have the place to ourselves. After a quick assessment of the situation, I decide to drop my husband off at the end of the line and go park. Why I didn't send a kid with him to wait in line I don't know. I guess its because there was tons of traffic and people every where and I felt pressured to move out of the way.

Three blocks later I find a parking spot. We get out, I grab my sleeping baby, his blanket and his bottle. I stuff the shoes back on my son's feet and we walk. Along the way I learned something new about my 4 year old son. He does not like Flip flops. He doesn't like the little piece that goes between your toes. And kept walking out of them and leaving them on the sidewalk. I would realize this after we were several paces away and we'd run back and get them, stuff them on his feet again, only to repeat this process again a few steps later. This was the source of entertainment for people who were walking behind us. Finally I gave up and let him walk barefoot down the sidewalk, keeping a watchout for anything sharp.

We arrive to the front of the theatre. No husband. We go inside and he is just walking away from the ticket window - yeah! My first lucky break of the day. Then we get in line for popcorn. Son takes off shoes several more times. Sleeping baby is awake and not happy about being woken up. Not to mention he is sliding further and further down my hip as he sqirms around in my arms. And my oldest can't stop chattering. Finally I do another mommy assessment and decide to take the kids and find seats. No seats on first floor, must walk up three flights of stairs to the balcony, with a squirming baby, chattering kid and the shoe escape artist. We retrieve the shoes at least 2 times on the stairs. No good front row seats so we must go to the fourth or was it fifth row. I get the kids situated. I'm sitting between my oldest and middle child, cause I know better then to let them sit next to each other in a dark movie theatre. I situate squirming baby on my lap, then I think, um how is my husband going to find us? Movie previews have already started, its very dark in there. The walls and floors are dark red, which makes it even darker, he'll never find us! Then I whip out our modern day invention - the cell phone! Only he doesn't answer it cause his hands are full of popcorn and drinks. I manage to flag him down, we hand out the popcorn and the kids are quiet for awhile. That is until the popcorn ran out, sprite was spilled on my legs by both kids and the movie began to get a little boring.

The Summer Mommy Diet

Since summer has started, unbeknownst to me, I started a diet and actually lost a few pounds. I'm dubbing it the Summer Mommy Diet.

Here's how it works. Full meals are a thing of the past. Instead you sneak one of your kids french fries as you fix their plate. You finish the half eaten apple that was left on the kitchen counter. You get a morsel or two from the kids half eaten leftovers as you scrape them into the garbage. You steal a bite here or there when you are testing your baby's food to make sure its not to hot. My kids are so active that the little bit of food I manage to wolf down, I run right off while shooing my kid from one thing to another. That or while I am trying to eat, they are wreaking havoc in the other room and my meal gets abandoned.

My kids' new names - How many moms do this?

My kids names are Michael, Logan and Damien (yes my website is named after them) You know how when your kids are fighting and your busy/tired/frustrated and you just shout out whatever name comes to mind first, whether its really the kid you are talking to or not? You go down the list of names until you finally get the right kid.

Well I have taken that to a new level. I have combined my children's names. Since Damien is only a baby, I haven't had to say his name in frustration yet. But with my oldest two, its MiLogan or LoMichael. Yep. I started to say one kid's name and realized I needed the other one instead so I changed course in the middle. So come on, tell me I am not the only one who does this?

First let me say happy 1st anniversary to Milo's Creations blog! Its hard to believe that I have been blogging a year already! Here's my first post ever on blogger! I'm glad to be here, blogging is fun and I have gained a few new friends along the way!

Now for the terrible, horrible, no good bad week. Yes I stole some lines from the Classic Alexander book (can you tell I read this alot to my kids?)

Lets start with the fact I got into a car accident with my new (to us) mini van. So new in fact I haven't even had a chance to write a blog about it. We had it for about a month.

My car insurance company calls me yesterday and tells me they totaled my van. I'm super bummed. I really liked that van. It was a Honda Odyssey. Not any Honda Odyssey, it was one my uncle gave me when he died. So I know its stupid, but I feel like a connection to him was lost. Sigh.

We have our internet, tv cable and phone through the local cable provider. I paid my bill (I really did, have the email confirmations to prove it) Spent probably 2 hours on the phone with them this week agruing over it (their customer service is horrible!) and we get it straightened out Thursday afternoon that my account is good and my services won't be shut off on the 12th. So Friday the 12th rolls around, my hubby has the day off and I plan to sleep in! Nope, I am rudely awakened by my kids who are upset they can't watch Franklin and my hubby is upset cause he can't surf the internet. I'm mad now. First I didn't get to sleep in. Second, I took care of all this on the phone twice.

Later I found out after everything was restored and I was able to get online and check my bank account, that they took money out of our checking account and shut our service off in the same day. How crazy is that? I wasn't kidding when I said they have BAD customer service.

The day before this, I go shopping and out to lunch with my mom. I drive her van, its raining and we turn the lights on. You know where this is heading don't you? Yes I got out of the van and left the lights on and ran the battery down. I had to call my husband to come give us a jump.

A lot of other little crappy things happened also this week, but I won't bore you to death reciting them.

Last night my hubby and I got a sitter for the kids and went out to dinner ALONE for the first time in over a year. My batteries are recharged and I'm ready to tackle the day again. :)

I'm not sure I like the grass

Happy Wordless Wednesday! He is a quick shot of D experiencing grass for the first time. He's not quite sure if he likes it! At first he would only put one foot down at a time. Eventually he got so he tolerated it enough to chase his big brothers around the yard, as much as our hilly, bumpy yard would allow.

My 11 month old son was screaming bloody murder, I raced to his crib to find that his leg was stuck in the crib railing at the knee and he couldn't get it out. It wasn't really stuck, just a gentle manuver and his leg was easily freed. Basically he fell asleep with his leg dangling out and apparently tried to turn in his sleep and it was stuck.

Poor guy. This is not the first time this has happened. My middle son, did the same thing at this age. Do my kids have usually large knees or what? Has this happened to you? And no the crib is not some 1960's contraption painted with lead paint. I received it brand new for a baby shower gift when I was pregnant with my oldest. Neverless sure makes your heart race when you hear your baby screaming like he was!

I look forward to summer, yet dread it at the same time!

I look forward to:

Spending time with my kids outdoors and fun activities
Sleeping in past 6 AM, (if my baby will let me!)
Not waiting for the bus that's always early when we are running late & always running late when we are ready
Not having to recycle the mounds of schoolwork my 2nd grader brings home to me each day.

I don't look forward to:

The endless "Mom he took/hit/broke/hid" (You get the idea)
Lugging all the gear we'll need to go to the park, pool, zoo or other field trips.
The day I realize I have ran out of things to keep them entertained and its just too hot to play outside - the result? Bored, cranky kids.

So now I am wracking my brain trying to make a list of everything we can do this summer that will wear my kids out but not wear me out! Stay tuned to see my ideas and maybe you can share some of yours.

Last Friday it was a beautiful spring day so I decided to surprise my 8 year old by picking him up from school, on the way home we spotted a pony rides sign. This wonderful man was offering pony rides for a donation to a local charity. How could we resist? Even my 9 month old rode a pony! He didn't like it too much, but my 4 and 8 year old sure did! Of course I didn't have my camera with me - (mental note to self, bring camera along everytime we leave house!) But for another donation I could purchase a picture of all of us! Happy Earth Day!

Oh Lordy, my middle child has been giving me a run for my money lately. Lucky for me and for D's sake I was able to confiscate the finger painting goods before he got to his little brother. The culprit? Blue ink from an ink stamper set.

Surprisly the dye actually came off. My tub is stained blue in some spots and he still has some faint hints of blue ink on his legs. Atleast he won't look like a smurf anymore.

Ok, so one of my side dishes last night for dinner was broccoli - my kids reactions were quite amusing, so I listed them here:

The 8 year old: "Broccoli? Yuck!" The broccoli sat uneatten on his plate - big surprise.

The 4 year old: "oohh Christmas trees!" I don't know why he calls them that, but he gobbled the broccoli right up.

And finally the 8 month old, as I spoonfeed him his finely smashed broccoli
: "mmmmmmm" Of course he finished his.

So 2 out of 3 ate the broccoli with no complaints - not bad!

A fun family getaway - Indoor Waterpark

Last week we took the kids on a 2 day mini vacation to Splash Universe. A indoor waterpark, that resides within the Holiday inn, in Dundee, Michigan.

We were told that this was a "small" water park in comparison to others, but this suited us fine. The room was big enough that our 4 and 8 year old could get away from each other and still allow us to see them both. A huge bonus for us, was there were many, many life guards on duty to keep a watch over everyone.

Fun for our whole family, including my husband - who was like a big kid in that place. Our family of five fit comfortably in the kids bunkhouse suite, which had 2 sets of of bunkbeds (thank goodness, so both M and L can each have a top bunk and not fight over who got the top). Here is a couple of pics with them on their beds.

Then there was a "semi privacy" wall for the parents. So much for privacy, since D wouldn't sleep in the pack in play I brought. Here he is sleeping in our bed.

Seriously how much privacy can you get with 2 little peeping toms pictured below?

After spending two days splashing around in our bathing suits in 80 degree indoor temps, we were not at all prepared for our drive home with the weather hoovering around 15 degrees and very windy!

I was just getting ready to vacuum when my 8 month old assumed his usual position of hands and knees and started his rocking, I was watching him since he kind of looked like he was going to actually crawl towards the toy instead of the army crawl that he has been doing. I grabbed my camera and took this video to document this milestone. :-)

Last week it snowed like crazy here and the kids were itching to go outside and play in the snow. The result? My 4 year old lost his glasses out there.

Wow I can't believe my little man is 4! Here he is 4 years ago:

OK, so I am not about to give up my website exactly quit my day job to become a cake decorator!

We had a good day, baked a cake and went seen the movie Madagascar 2 at the Michigan Movie Theatre, in downtown Jackson. Its a great old theatre built in the 1930's.

Before the movie, my oldest son and I baked the birthday cake. My son wanted a 3 tiered cake. And as he pulled out a large cake pan and a medium cake pan and finally my meatloaf dish for the "small" cake, I got the bright idea to make the 3 tier cake into a cars theme, since Logan likes that movie so much.

But of course the story doesn't end there, I haven't even gotten started yet. So M and finished decorating L's cake and I had to step away for a moment to get ready for the movies. I realized the birthday boy was missing and discovered the cake looking like this:

And one frosting covered birthday boy hiding under my kitchen table, I only wished I would have thought to take a picture of him hiding under there with frosting all over himself!

The last few days we have broken the record with our -25 to -30 tempatures - yeah lucky us. Anyway, my kids have been BOOORRREEEDDD since they can't go outside and have continued to pester me to no end. So I decided to put to use an idea I got from my son's preschool teacher Mrs. S.

Since its too cold to go outside, we brought the snow inside! Here are some pictures:

At first I was a little concerned about the mess they might make, (they are boys and any project they do has to involve messes of some sort) but to my surprise this was a fairly mess free project! Not to mention snow/water is an easy thing to clean up. We used cookie sheets with sides, and a couple of big mixing bowls to fetch the snow. The kids wore gloves to protect their hands. Overall a great Saturday afternoon project! I think we'll try this again and maybe I'll get brave and include food coloring next time, or maybe not!

An Afternoon of Family Fun

Here in our little corner of Michigan we were under a winter weather warning since Friday and received about 10-12 of inches of snow. After being snowed in all weekend, the kids needed an energy outlet and mom and dad needed a few mintues to rest. So we packed everyone up and went to the local indoor playground, called the Chelsea Treehouse. Ah, did I say mom and dad needed to rest? Yeah right, there wasn't much resting here, with the kids begging us to go down the slide with them, but I gotta admit it was fun! Here are some pics of the kids and the big kid AKA my husband having an afternoon of fun!

Bubbly Toilet?

So I think my 4 year old has been feeling the middle child effects. His oldest brother is 8 and commands a lot of attention because he is ADHD and his youngest brother is 6 months old who also commands alot of attention because he is a baby. So my 4 year old has been doing some creative things to amuse himself while Mommy is busy with his brothers.

His latest creation - was squirting the foaming hand-soap (the kind that looks like shaving cream with you pump it) into our toilet! I went to check on his "potty progress" and to my dismay he was just finishing up pumping the last of the brand new bottle of "shaving cream soap" into the toilet bowl.

So I stood there trying to decide what to do. Do I go ahead and flush it? The bowl was nearly full of foam. I was thinking of how washers react to to much soap and overflow. Should I try to scoop it out some how? (YUCK) Then I got to thinking, where would I put it once I scooped it out? So I vetoed that idea quickly and decided to flush and was ready with paper towels just in case! To my surprise the toilet handled it like a pro and no overflow!

Feeling unproductive today

Today I am feeling very unproductive. My to do list is very long and not much is getting checked off as done. My 3 year old is being a little stinker and my newborn baby is having a "gotta be held by mommy only and no one else can hold me or I will cry until she comes back" kind of mood.

When I have days like this, I just think of the following poem. ( I do not know the author, if you do, please let me know and I will give proper credit).

Cleaning and scrubbing can wait until tomorrow
For babies grow up, I've learned to my sorrow.
So settle down cobwebs, dust go to sleep.

Sequel to "Welcome to Holland"

I reflect heavily on this poem recently, my son Michael just turned 8! He is my "Holland" child. I reflect back over the years and all the struggles he has overcome and what an amazing little boy he is. I cannot believe its been 8 years and how far he has come.

Michael is so bright and smart. He is so curious about life and how things "tick." He always wakes up with a smile on his face and so cheerful, especially at 6 AM when I just want to sleep!

Michael is definately an early bird and lives life to the fullest. He is a challenge too, and can be especially trying at times. But as I check in on him at night while he is peacefully sleeping, I know its all worth it.

Celebrating Holland - I'm Home

(my follow-up to the original \Welcome to Holland\ by Emily Perl Kingsley)

I have been in Holland for over a decade now. It has become home. I have had time to catch my breath, to settle and adjust, to accept something different than I'd planned. I reflect back on those years of past when I had first landed in Holland. I remember clearly my shock, my fear, my anger, the pain and uncertainty.

In those first few years, I tried to get back to Italy as planned, but Holland was where I was to stay. Today, I can say how far I have come on this unexpected journey. I have learned so much more. But, this too has been a journey of time.

I worked hard. I bought new guidebooks. I learned a new language and I slowly found my way around this new land. I have met others whose plans had changed like mine, and who could share my experience. We supported one another and some have become very special friends.

Some of these fellow travelers had been in Holland longer than I and were seasoned guides, assisting me along the way. Many have encouraged me. Many have taught me to open my eyes to the wonder and gifts to behold in this new land. I have discovered a community of caring.

Holland wasn't so bad.

I think that Holland is used to wayward travelers like me and grew to become a land of hospitality, reaching out to welcome, to assist and to support newcomers like me in this new land.

Over the years, I've wondered what life would have been like if I'd landed in Italy as planned. Would life have been easier? Would it have been as rewarding? Would I have learned some of the important lessons I hold today?

Sure, this journey has been more challenging and at times I would (and still do) stomp my feet and cry out in frustration and protest. And, yes, Holland is slower paced than Italy and less flashy than Italy, but this too has been an unexpected gift. I have learned to slow down in ways too and look closer at things, with a new appreciation for the remarkable beauty of Holland with its tulips, windmills and Rembrandts.

I have come to love Holland and call it Home.

I have become a world traveler and discovered that it doesn't matter where you land. What's more important is what you make of your journey and how you see and enjoy the very special, the very lovely, things that Holland, or any land, has to offer.

Yes, over a decade ago I landed in a place I hadn't planned. Yet I am thankful, for this destination has been richer than I could have imagined!
